Far-Reaching Fruits

Crossroads has a bit of a relationship with the international shipping organization DHL. Kate, our Communications Director, was talking to a lady at the local DHL yesterday to coordinate some things, and this lady – Chinese – said the day before she’d gotten into a taxi and met a driver who was familiar with Crossroads. You see, over five years ago, Crossroads was on a different site in HK, and the Crossroads team had to take various transport to get from their home to the site. One part of that transport was a quick taxi ride. This Chinese lady from DHL, for whatever reason, spoke to the also Chinese cab driver in English, and when she heard his English, she told him, “You’re English is very good!” He told her that several years ago he had frequently driven a group of gweilos (a term for white, non-Chinese people) to Kai Tak, Crossroads’ old site. Through those experiences, he improved his English. He told this DHL lady how much his business has been booming since then, since he now gets requested by ex-pats because of his good English (ex-pats are foreigners living here, and often pretty well off). He said those Crossroads people changed his life! Then he told her that that same group of people also introduced him to JC, which has also changed his life.

Of all the millions of taxis in Hong Kong, how incredible that this woman got into his cab, and though they are both Chinese struck up a conversation in English, which led to this amazing discovery. I guess it goes to show how much your testimony can affect someone, and how that obedience to testify continually bears fruit.
